Individuality
There are many different
characteristics and unique qualities that make up every person. These different
characteristics define us as who we are and show our true individuality. So
what characteristics bring out our uniqueness and individuality? I believe they
are the ones that separate ourselves from other people and make us our own person
that define our individuality. Talent, confidence, ambition, and selflessness
are all good examples of qualities that separate us from others, and it’s these
kinds of qualities that keep things interesting and make the world go round.
Everyone is born with a special and
different talent. Some people are fortunate enough to discover what that talent
is, others are not as fortunate. Whether you can play an instrument of any
type, wow people with your voice, be successful in competitive sports, use your
knowledge to participate in scholarly activities, or even be able to speak and
share your opinions in front of large groups, these are all unique talents. It takes
passion, drive and dedication to be able to practice these different talents.
The passion, drive, and dedication are things that only you posses. Though
someone else might share the same talent as you, it still makes you different
and special because there is a certain style to the way that you do what you
do, a style that cannot be practiced by anyone else.
Confidence is a trait that is
starting to be found in people less and less. There are all kinds of
advertisements, companies, and television shows/movies that make people feel
like they need to fit in with the people around them. Many people feel the need
to conform to everyone around them. But it’s the people who can avoid that
conformity that have true individuality. These people are comfortable with who
they are and they don’t want to be anyone but themselves. They live their lives
their own way and not the way society says they should. Having confidence in
yourself is a very unique quality
because as stated before, with society the way it is now, there are very few
people who actually have confidence in themselves.
Those individuals who have strong
ambitions and go after their goals in life really show individuality. Many
people often get discouraged and talked out of going after what they want in
life. Like the confidence topic, someone who goes after what they want and not
what other people want really give a good impression on individuality. Ambitious
attitude shows strength as well as independence. Most people do have ambitions,
whether their ambitions are towards future careers, focusing on having a
family, or just going after whatever they see themselves doing in the future,
they are still striving to get where they want to be, and they’re not going to
let anyone talk them out of what they want to do. All these different ambitions
really separate individuals from each other. Therefore, it shows their
uniqueness and their true individuality.
Last but not least is selflessness.
The reason that I believe selflessness is a quality that shows individuality,
is because not many people these days have that “make others feel good,” attitude.
Not everyone, but a lot of people nowadays tend to only care about themselves,
and don’t really do much for others. However, selflessness is when someone will
do something for someone else without expecting anything in return for it. They
do it just because it makes them feel better about themselves. People can be
selfless with the love they give others, their ability to listen to others, the
amount of patience they have, as well as the time they dedicate to other people
in their lives. These are people who have the ability to make others feel
loved, appreciated, and special. Selflessness is not exactly common now a day.
We live a world where many people are “self absorbed.” So being selfless is
definitely a unique quality and absolutely shows individuality.
All these qualities plus many more,
really explain what true individuality is. Everyone has a quality or trait that
separates them from others and makes them different, in a positive way of
course. Some people may not posses some of the qualities that I described, but
those qualities aren’t the only ones that make someone unique. There is always a
quality in someone that cannot be found in anyone else. Therefore, everyone
possesses true individuality. Anything that makes you who you are defines your
true individuality.
